Krakatau is the legendary and most prolific jazz band in Indonesia’s history, featuring Trie Utami (vocals), Indra Lesmana (keyboards), Dwiki Dharmawan (keyboards), Gilang Ramadhan (drums), Pra Budidharma (bass) and Donny Suhendra (guitar).
They had been the most prolific jazz band in Indonesia, selling more than 5 million records from 1986 to 1990.
After the peak performance and successful sales of “Kau Datang” (“You Came”), the band went through a period of transition and partial dissolution. Krakatau revealed a bold new musical direction: from jazz-pop-fusion to the jazz ethnic and traditional musics of Indonesia, specifically the Sundanese traditions of West Java lead by Dwiki Dharmawan. During that transition, lndra Lesmana, Gilang Ramadhan and Donny Suhendra formally resigned from Krakatau, went their separate ways doing their personal music projects.
The band now making a new come back, with their new name; KRAKATAU REUNION, back performed on tours in several cities, with their classic hits, brought nostalgic memories of the fans and audience back in time…
I had a privilege to be their official photographer during their performance with Casiopea, a legendary jazz band from Japan, at Economics Jazz Festival in Yogyakarta – Indonesia, October 2015.
