8th ASEAN Para Games 2015

The ASEAN Para Games is a biannual multi-sport event held after every Southeast Asian Games for ASEAN athletes with physical disabilities. The games are participated by the 11 countries located in Southeast Asia – Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor Leste and Vietnam . The Para Games, patterned after the Paralympic Games, are played by physically challenged athletes with mobility disabilities, visual disabilities, who are amputees and those with cerebral palsy.

In 2015, Singapore is hosting the 8th ASEAN Para Games – a first to be held. The ASEAN Para Games was held on 3-9 December during school holidays.

This sporting event is expected to involve some 1,300 athletes and over 500 team officials from across the region.

In the final day of action, Thailand finished on top of the medal table with an unmatched 95 gold medals and a grand total of 250 medals in all.

Indonesia, who showed their prowess in track and field yet again, finished second in the table, with 81 gold medals and 218 overall.

Malaysia were third with 52 golds and 147 overall medals while Vietnam had 48 golds and 156 total medals and Singapore were next with 24 golds.
