Gigi (pronounced ghee-ghee) is an Indonesian icon pop rock band led by founder, Armand Maulana, and songwriter Dewa Budjana. Formed in March 1994, the band has released fifteen studio albums. The name “Gigi” (teeth) itself is named after the laugh members of the group had after the name “Orang Utan” nearly was decided as the name of the band.
on 14 July 2018, they are back in Singapore, performed at The Esplanade Concert Hall to serve up their fans in the country with the same expressive vocals, jazz-influenced guitar licks, funk bass and potent rhythm section that have made them household names, gave audience a night to remember!
A band cannot last for 23 years without having problems. On the other hand, a band also cannot last for 23 years without finding ways to overcome those problems.
Founded in 1994 by frontman Armand Maulana, guitarist Dewa Budjana, bassist Thomas Ramdhan and two others, the Bandung, West Java-based group has gone through several changes in their line-up, the latest of which comprises the three with the addition of drummer Gusti Hendy and new manager Aria Baron Arafat, their former guitarist.
GIGI has released 26 albums to date over the course of their illustrious 24-year career. Their most recent, ‘Setia Bersama Menyayangi’ dan ‘Mencintai’ (2017) is a collection of songs with spiritual themes, featuring all members of the band, past and present.
