Whitesnake put on a great rock show in front of a wild crowd
On 5 Mar 2020, right before the lockdown started, a classic English rock band, Whitesnake, brought down the house at The Star Theatre for the double-bill Singapore Rockfest II, which had a huge turnout of rock fans crammed into the indoor venue. Wisnu, our Singapore Concert Photographer was among the luckiest to witness the mega concert.
Whitesnake — which comprises former Deep Purple lead singer David Coverdale (pictured), drummer Tommy Aldridge, guitarists Reb Beach and Joel Hoekstra, bassist Michael Devin and keyboardist Michele Luppi — kicked off the night with a high-octane show. The band members, all in fantastic shape, ran through their hits like ‘Hey You’,‘Here I Go Again’ and ‘Ain’t No Love in the Heart of the City’. “Make as much f***n noise as you can, ’cos we’re here for that, and your good health!” screamed David Coverdale to loud cheers from the audience.
The band charged the stage, launching right into ‘Bad Boys’, ‘Slide It In’ and ‘Love Ain’t No Stranger’ before greeting the crowd, and toasting to music and good health. The band’s 80-minute set included a jaw-dropping guitar duel, a drum solo that defied the laws of physicals and favorites like ‘Here I Go Again’ and many more.
Whitesnake’s musicality and showmanship have always been present, their showcase in Singapore a timely reminder of how powerful live music is, now more than ever. a thrilling and sweaty show ended after just less than 85 minutes… unfortunately without any more additions/encore. The interplay with the band and audience was also very strong throughout the set. David Coverdale is seventy this year and I don’t think there will be too many more tours for him. Especially after the pandemic attack. The night was just amazing!
