Concert Photography: Scorpions Live in Singapore

The SCORPIONS are still here, still relevant, and they put on one hell of a show 53 years after their inception.

Singapore, 05 MAR 2020. With the COVOD-19 pandemic that started to haunt the city, it was a big night of rock n’ roll in Singapore with Scorpions playing in town. But rock was the winner. It always is. It was great to see large amount of fans turning up to see these legend of rock music.

Klaus Meine, Scorpions
Rudolf Schenker, Scorpions

Our Singapore Concert Photographer, Wisnu Haryo Yudhanto, equipped with his Canon EOS R and 5D Mark III, he was among the audience ready to capture the majestic and the magical show that night from the pit.

The stage and sound is stunning, and Klaus Meine, the singer, after his health issues of days before is immense. He was suffering with kidney stones… dejected though I was, I just hoped that it was nothing too serious. For the little fella to be onstage at all is a victory, but he kills it that night. Rudolph Schenker, the lead guitar player, looked in great shape, running up and down the platform to perform, and around the stage such great energy!

while Matthias Jabs and bass player Paweł Mąciwoda prowl the stage keeping everything rocking along, and up the back, Mikey Dee is thrashing his kit into submission. While surrounded by video screens, it seems like his kit is suspended in mid air. Later, during his solo when the kit is lifted some 15 feet, he actually is! If there is a human incarnation of the drummer from the Muppet show, it’s this guy!

All the while the projection show went from fit-inducing strobes, to trippy psychedelia, cool 3d effects, and a stage full of virtual Marshalls, the production a rollercoaster ride on its own.

For me, it was a wonderful show and a memorable evening. “Wind of Change” a song of hope, both of which had the crowd singing along and touched many hearts. Tell me if you aren’t moved by that song; like almost to tears moved. Man, what an incredible voice! ”Still Loving You” and “Rock You Like a Hurricane” brought our night to a close. The show was badass. It was everything any rock fan or a devout fan of the SCORPIONS would want to see. Klaus sounded amazing, his voice back to his best. Let’s hope we get to see both these bands back in Singapore again.
